2015 - The Year of Fallout

After so technical issues regarding Tale of Two Wastelands and attempting to get everything in order for my triumphant return to college, I have finished my first round of editing the first I've Never Played for Fallout 1.  Season 3 will consist of Fallout 1 and the Inferno mission from Ultimate Doom.  Season 4 will be Fallout 2 and Thy Flesh Consumed, which will finish up Ultimate Doom.

The first episodes of INP: Fallout and ToTW playthrough should be up come the beginning of January.  After that, posts will probably alternate but my goal is to have one episode of each come out once a month.  Doom will continue and there will probably be one Doom episode for every two or three Fallout episodes as Fallout is longer game.

We've also recorded more Distance 3Play and BearAspirin will be posting that once he cobbles it all together.  Below is the end of Season 2 to I've Never Played where I loose my patience with Baldur's Gate once and for all.

 Sincerely,
The Simulated Scholar

Holiday Break, Work and Video Games

So I've finished the semester. I PASSED EVERYTHING!! Sorry for my absence, I was super busy with finals and trying to get home for the holidays. I'm now back and I've got some videos to share and a special event to announce!

Hey You're Dead, Don't Help Him! [Melonbomber with Friends (?) 7]

Prop Hunt 15: The Backdoor Wasn't a Real Door

Now for the special announcement. As you know I've been playing a game called Distance for a while and I love the game. It has an awesome community that has developed countless maps for it and they are doing a Christmas event called the Distance Advent Calendar where a new map is released every day until Christmas. I decided that I wanted to take part in this so in light of the fact that I couldn't keep up with playing the maps during finals, I decided to do what I'm calling "The Twelve Days of Distance" by playing and uploading about 2 maps per day until Christmas. They are available on this playlist Here!

Please let me know what you think of my 12 Days of Distance and I'll try to be better about updates during the holidays. Happy Holidays everyone, I'm off to work!

November's End

The month draws to a close and there is only 2 weeks separating me from a month of relaxation (and working my real job I suppose). Black Friday shopping/working was fairly uneventful. I got myself a few choice Blu-Rays and my girlfriend got herself the Xbox One (super jealous, will be borrowing). I'm sitting in my parent's house studying and delaying leaving in order to avoid the miserable traffic that awaits me out there. With that said, here are some more videos!

GMod Murder 5: OH No! Someone Has Killed This Poor Unfortunate...

Distance Beta Challenge Mode 2: Super Saw Hill FAIL!

Distance hits Steam Early Access December 9th and I can't wait to play it more. I'm excited for the content that all the new players will produce and the people I will be able to play with.

Go check out their site Here!

Okay, back to studying prior to my inevitable departure!

New Equipment!

I recently purchased a new external hard drive so that I can store my captures and edited files with out have in to constantly delete things.  Things were starting to get too full and now I should be able to return to my multitude of projects.

As a retail drone the holidays are a busy and stressful time for me so I often just turn on my xbox instead of recording or editing.  BearAspirin convinced me to play Destiny with him and some of our other friends and I must admit I am hooked.  The gameplay is very good but there so much lost in the story being told you can tell things were taken out instead of just never put there in the first place.  Here's hoping that joining up with Activision won't hurt Bungie's reputation too much.

But that's old news at this point any way.  I do plan on completing Chapter 1 of Baldur's Gate for season 2 of I've Never Played. After that will be the Tale of Two Wastelands play through of Fallout 3 & New Vegas.  I'll probably throw in other compatible mods as well.  In addition to the Garry's Mod videos we will be adding game of Civilization 5 to the roster this summer.  Yes, I know Beyond Earth is out but we only convinced Bear to get the game a few months ago so hopefully we can get him to play some more soon.

Baldur's Gate Part 4 is up.  I'm going to start thinking about what game to do for season 3 soon.  I want to do different stuff and hopefully season 3 will start up this spring. I've decided to do the Fallout 1 & 2 for season 3 to go along with my 3 & New Vegas play through.

Sincerely,
The Simulated Scholar

Thanksgiving Break is HERE!!! Also, The Flash!

It's FINALLY Thanksgiving Break! WOOOOOO!
I can't stress how much I need this break from school to just decompress before finals kick off. I'm headed home tomorrow to work my job back home and unwind/study for a week before one last week of classes, then finals. It's going to come up quicker than I expect so I'm going to try and get a jump start on things. I have a couple of new videos to post, so go check them out!

Prop Hunt 14: I Am NOT The Chicken Wing

Q.U.B.E. First Time Playthrough Level 5 Part 2 of 4: Oooh Glowing Blocks

Also, for those of you who keep up with the DC Universe on TV, I'm loving the current seasons of Arrow and The Flash. I have this great theory about how the whole Eobard Thawne factors into the show. Eddie Thawne is an ancestor of Eobard's who is going to pass down stories of The Flash's heroism and daring and as the years progress and the stories are passed down, they become more fantastical until a young Eobard far in the future hears the stories and becomes obsessed with The Flash and decides he MUST meet his idol, so he becomes Professor Zoom and does just that.

Let me know what you think of my idea!

Thanksgiving! Finals! Wooooo!

As I sit here studying for my test on Friday (booo exam before Thanksgiving break!) I figured I'd make a quick post to add a couple more videos.

Distance Beta Challenge Mode 1: Thunderstruck!

Besides adventure mode, Distance also has a challenge mode where you get one life, on chance to survive a track. Crash or wreck at any point and you start over from the beginning. It's definitely an exercise in frustration sometimes, but it's also a blast to play.

YAAAY By Default! [Melonbomber with Friends (?) 6]

I do enjoy playing this game mode, even if I'm not very good at it. It's fun to goof around with my friends.

Back! Crazy Busy School Time! EUROPE!!

Sorry for my apparent absence, school ramped up a bit and I had a 2 week stretch there where I basically ate, did school work, and slept when I could. Things have wound down a little and all I have left for this week is a calculations competency for tomorrow (woooo).
As you can see, I'm taking full advantage of "No Shave November" and being lazy for a month (or so, we'll see if I get rid of it sooner).

I like to call this one, "The Creeper Over My Shoulder"

I haven't been keeping up with updating video uploads on here, so I'm a bit behind, but here are a couple more that have been uploaded recently.

GMod Murder: Awesome Knife Throw!

QUBE First Time Playthrough Level 5 Part 1 of 4: Enter the Darkness

With Thanksgiving and Christmas break coming up pretty soon, I will try and be more diligent about posting updates on videos, assuming I'm not working constantly.

Also, the aforementioned trip to Ireland? Totally happening and I'm super stoked for it. I've never been to Europe and I'm looking forward to it.

That's all for now,

I Can't Wait for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is coming up and I couldn't be more excited. It's not the food specifically that I love about Thanksgiving, it's the much needed week long brain break that I'm going to get right before finals start. Then I get a month off to work and unwind before spring semester starts. I'm excited for the spring to come because a whole new set of classes start and with a little luck, I'll be taking a trip to Ireland to visit a very good friend of mine.

Two more videos to bring to your attention.

I honestly think we get better at playing Prop Hunt as time progresses, but we will have to wait and see. I really like Distance so there will be more of that to come!

Week From Hell DONE!

Wooo! I'm done with this crazy ass week. Having my girlfriend's dog for this past week has made my life much more enjoyable.

As far as I know I passed everything, but I'm still waiting on grades for two things so we shall see. I have a couple of videos to post.

Prop Hunt 12

I also have the final installment of my Distance Adventure Mode Series.

I'm still working hard, but today I'm going to take a break and play some Destiny for a couple of hours before I start working/studying.
Later!

Studying...Always Studying

I'm taking a fast break from my studies (3 exams this week, remember?) to make a quick post to bring to light a couple more videos that have been uploaded recently.

Part 8 of Distance Adventure Mode is up for your viewing pleasure. It's the second to last video of Adventure Mode and I have some plans for other Distance videos since I do rather enjoy playing the game.

Next up is Part 4 of my Q.U.B.E Playthrough. I'm going to start uploading level 5 soon, but it took me almost half an hour to beat so instead of boring you to death with a single 30 minute video, I'm splitting that one up into several videos.

Just have to survive this week...this is a bit how I feel right now:

Back to the grind!

Work, Work, Work

The last week has been extremely stressful.  I had inventory on Wednesday and a cousin get married yesterday so I have not completed much.  I have another episode's worth of content for Baldur's Gate to edit and I've started recording for the "Inferno" portion of Doom.  I'm dying a lot at this one point in the second mission so it may be a bit for that comes out.

On some good notes, my 5th ed. Monster Manual arrived and AMV Hell 7 came out. I'm enjoy 5th edition so far and I'll have another dungeon master journal entry after this as we finally had another session. My brother and his friends work restaurants so regular schedules don't really exist.  As for AMV Hell 7, I don't know how many people have even thought about these things any more.  Many have said that the AMV Hell project as hurt AMV production over all.  While I agree with the statement at face value I don't believe that means that the AMV Hell project is bad.

When AMV Hell 1 through 3 came out it was a new concept that provided a way of showing clip AMVs.  Which is how I refer to AMV ideas that are good but wouldn't be able to make a full length AMV on it own.  That so many people have tried to copy the style of AMV Hell in their full length AMVs is not Zarxrax's or SSGWNBTD's fault.

BearAspirin and I are also working on some ideas for new shows.  The first one you'll probably see will involve us goofing off in the kitchen while experimenting with food and drink recipes.  I'll begin doing some let's plays as well that don't fit within the I've Never Played format so they will be appearing on my personal channel as Bear does with his individual videos. However, I need a new hard drive before I can do any that. Any suggestions are welcome and I'm thinking doing the Tale of Two Wastelands mod for Fallout 3 & New Vegas first.

Sincerely,
The Simulated Scholar

October's Here, Bring on Hell Month

October has historically been a pretty busy month for pharmacy school thus far, and it looks like this year it's shaping up to be much of the same. Between a series of 3 exams in the first week, classes both ending and beginning, and a 20 something page paper due the first week of November, I'm definitely going to have my hands full, but I'll do my best to keep uploading a couple of videos per week as I have usually done.

I have a couple of videos for you in the form of a new MelonBomber

and a new Gmod Murder!

I recorded them a while ago so I apologize if the audio balance is out of whack. I only just recently uploaded them, so Let me know what you think of them!

A little rant

Holy crap editing Baldur's Gate is boring.  It takes so much more time to record enough content to make a worth while video and then going over it is kind of mind numbing.  Analyzing all the walking and the fighting for the interesting bits is so much more time consuming than it is with Doom.

I don't know if I'll continue with this game for I've Never Played but I will at least complete Chapter 1 of the game.  Hopefully I'll find a pacing that will make this more interesting while playing.  Any suggestions on what other games to play would be highly appreciated right now.  That way I could balance out the slower pace of Baldur's Gate with something else.

Sincerely,
 The Simulated Scholar

Late Night Take 2

Up late studying, figured I'd post another video. We are closing in on the end of the Adventure Mode portion of the Distance Beta. The adventure mode is a great introduction to the game, but I think Distance has way more to offer in the form of user created tracks and other game types. I will likely start doing runs of user created tracks just to showcase some of the awesome stuff that's out there. In the meantime, here's the video

Laggy Gameplay and Tests Galore

So much work...I have two tests this week. I did upload a new video of my brother and I playing Spec Ops...well playing is a loose interpretation I guess. My internet at school is so bad that it rendered multiplayer campaign pretty much impossible. As much as it sucked to go through, it was pretty damn funny just how bad it was though. Check it out!

Busy, busy, busy

Hey there, sorry for my absence, I've been busy with school work. I've got a new video for you, Part 6 of Distance Beta Adventure Mode.

School is going well, but unfortunately I'm going to get busier from this point forward. There's a week in October where I have 3 tests and a mini-project type thing all due within that one week, so I will likely be non-existent during that week. Keep letting us know what you think of our stuff and we'll keep doing our best to keep putting it out there!

New Game

Time for a video update. I've been a little ill and BearAspirin as been busy with his classes so here's what we've done in the last two weeks. First up is the first two parts of my Baldur's Gate, the next game in I've Never Played.  I struggle a bit with the unfamiliar controls as I keep trying to use WASD.

Next is more Distance.  We continue on with the Sprint multiplayer and trying out Reverse Tag as well.  Reverse Tag is essentially "kill the guy with the ball" but instead you are inside a glowing sphere that get larger over time.

Continuing with Distance is BearAspirin's play through of the Adventure mode.

Lastly is more Melonbomber and Bear's Q.U.B.E. Let's Play.

I know that's quite a bit but BearAspirin has been editing and upload with what free time he has and I'll bug him to remember to post to the blog as well when he uploads.  Please subscribe and leave comments, we'd love to know what you like and what you feel we could do better.

A Dungeon Master's Journal #1

Tyranny of Dragons: Greenest in Flames  Part 1: Seek the Keep

Fodel Bersk, a noble of Damaran blood who has been living with relatives in Neverwinter for some time now, crests a hill in the Greenfields.  Instead of the pleasant, welcoming town he expected, he sees columns of black smoke rising from the burning buildings of Greenest.  A dark, winged shape passes in front of the setting sun as it wheels around for another attack.  However, the warlock is not shocked or surprised.  Perhaps a little miffed he didn't get here sooner but it is no matter to him.

By the time he reaches the town the sun has set and only the dim light of burning buildings and a half moon illuminate the raiders and townsfolk around him.  A halfling urchin is hidden behind a building that still stands and call Fodel over.  The rogue has five other townsfolk with him and introduces himself as Kal.  Kal asks Fodel to help him get these people to the keep.  At first Fodel doesn't want to bother with the poor, unwashed people and will continue to the keep on his own but Kal knows the back allies better and can get him to the keep faster if Fodel will help him keep these people safe.

They encounter three groups of raiders, a variety of kobolds, cultists, and some guards.  Half way there Kal is knocked unconscious in battle but Fodel is able to finish the fight with a Poison Spray cantrip. By luck Kal doesn't die and Fodel is able to carry him to the keep with out further harassment.  Once inside a cleric is able to heal both of them.  As the keep is preparing to close the gate a family is spotted trying to make it.  The wife stops to block the kobolds chasing them while the injured husband and children hid behind a building.  Kal and Fodel start attack the kobolds from a distance but the kobolds knock the woman down.

They quickly dispatch the kobolds with magic and arrows after that and get the family inside as the gate closes and the raiders encircle the keep.  Inside they speak with Governor Nighthill and Castellan Escobert the Red after a short rest.  The two are asked to head back out through an old tunnel that provides water to the keep in case of siege.  They ask if there are others to aide them, the Governor mentions that he might have an officer from the town guard to join them later once people have settled in a bit and that he will keep an ear out for other able bodied individuals but until that time if they could head out and see what they can do for now.

They agree and Escobert helps them open the old door to the tunnel. They enter the waterway under the pretense of helping more townsfolk but only vengeance is in their hearts and minds.

Human Interaction

Quick update everyone.  Sorry it's been over a week since any of us posted anything to the blog, a few things got in the way.  First up, videos BearAspirin has posted two new things to his channel and one thing to the main channel.  He continues on with his Q.U.B.E. play through and there is a new Melonbomber as well.

One the main channel we have started playing around with the multiplayer in Distance. Watch as BearAspirin does way better than theADHDsquirrel and myself.

Next up, I'm thinking I'll do Baldur's Gate for my next I've Never Played... as I have recently picked up the Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition books that are out so far.  I am not familiar with Forgotten Realms and I skipped 4th edition so I feel this is a good opportunity to learn about that world.  I also plan to keep a journal of what happens as my players go through the Tyranny of Dragons storyline.

Hopefully I'll have a new DOOM up soon, this last weekend was a rough one for me health wise and also BlondieChan (of Melonbomber fame) was visiting so between her and D&D, Bear and I did more actual human interaction than "Interneting" or editing.  Lastly, the season premier of Doctor Who was pandering and overall left a bad taste in our mouths. The second episode was much better, I am very much enjoying Peter Capaldi so far.

The Distance and The Damned

It's been a while since I posted on here so prepare for quite a bit.  First up is the first two videos of BearAspirin's play through of The Distance beta. We will be doing some mulitplayer videos that will appear on his and the main channel depending on how many people we can get capturing.

Next up, we are planning on doing a series of videos were we play Civilization 5 multiplayer with The White Project.  That will be appearing on the main channel and hopefully there will be enough interesting moments and witty banter to make it entertaining.

Lastly, the latest episode of "I've Never Played..." is up with DOOM: Part 14. Which covers M2E9 Fortress of Mystery and E6 Halls of the Damned.  We are nearing the end of The Shores of Hell and I trying to decied what I do next.  I'm thinking of Duke Nukem 3D because that is what I tried to do next last time and maybe I'll be able to get it to work now.  The other front runners I have are Half-Life (the first one), Wing Commander, or Ultima.  If any of you have any suggestions please leave them in the comments below.

Melonbomber!

So I finally got around to editing the first series of games we played in the Gmod game Melonbomber. It's like Gmod version of Bomberman with ragdoll physics when you die. Bear in mind this is from the first time we ever really played the game, so we don't yet know how everything works. We have gotten considerably better at the game since we recorded this...mostly. Classes start for me tomorrow so we'll see how the semester goes.

Simulated Scholar also has a new installment of I've Never Played: DOOM.

As always if you like our stuff, let us know. Feedback is always appreciated.

New Game Time!

So before school starts I finally started playing a game I bought forever ago and never really got the chance to play more than the first level. That game is Q.U.B.E, or Quick Understanding of Block Extrusion. It's developed and published by the people over at Toxic Games (TwitterFacebook). It's a first person, puzzle platforming game that as far as I've played, I thoroughly enjoy. I know they released it originally for PC but now they have put out a Director's Cut that is cross platform with versions coming out for the WiiU, PS3 and Xbox One. I hope you enjoy the video, let me know what you think!

Innocent grenades and sad days

I'm back in my apartment at school, waiting for the semester to start. I have a new video for you guys!

As always, if you like the video, feel free to subscribe to keep up with my updates. If not, I welcome constructive criticism too.

SimulatedScholar also has the latest episode of his Doom series, I've Never Played. Go check it out!

My internet here is ridiculously slow so I'm probably only going to be able to get one upload a day up if that. My management company has told me they are working to fix the internet issue however, so here's hoping!

Also let's take a moment to remember the amazing life of a gamer, comedian, and voice actor. A man we lost FAR too soon, Robin Williams. He shaped a good portion of my childhood and always seemed like a fantastic human being. He will be missed greatly, God speed Mr. Williams.

Summer comes to a close

Hey Everyone,

I have a couple of new videos for you. The third installment of our Trouble in Terrorist Town game is up.

I also have the second Murder video up and ready to go.

Updates from me in terms of videos and blog posts are going to be a bit sparse in the coming weeks as I move back to school and get started with the new semester. Once thing settle down I'll try and get back into a more regular schedule and keep you updated on everything.

As always, if you like the videos go ahead and subscribe for updates and if you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know!

A little murder and some luck

Quick update here. New Garry's Mod, the first installment of our Murder games, and the next installment of  I've Never Played... Doom.  Some updates to the page will be coming as soon as we can get our hands on someone who knows better HTML than us.  Updated the site to a new template to give a nicer look. More improvements will come when we find someone who knows HTML better than me or Bear or a feel like relearning Dreamweaver. Until such a time videos will come out as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,
The Simulated Scholar

BearAspirin Here

Hey everyone. I'm making a quick post to let you know a couple of new videos have been uploaded to my channel. They are two more Prop Hunt and two Trouble in Terrorist Town videos for your viewing pleasure.

I have some other videos in the works right now from other game types such as more Trouble in Terrorist Town and Murder, and I will make a post when I throw them up online. I'm also working on the logistics of doing a series of BattleBlock Theater videos with Tech-Viper but I have to get a few things OK'd first. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the videos!

A Little Late

This post is a little late for just a simple update but that's all this is.  Posted below are the most recent videos from myself and BearAspirin.  Please also support I've Never Played... on Blip.tv as it seems that with the YouTube integration that Google now putting up players from another hosting site isn't straight forward anymore.  I'll tinker around with the HTML or something.  I know it's still possible because Atop the Fourth Wall does it.  Go check him out if you aren't already familiar (Linkara actually has fame and recently did his 300th episode) and like comic books.

Any way, here are those two videos. I'm off to clean the apartment and see if I can get my brother to make some crab cakes.

Starting Again

Wow, it's been over two years since I've done anything with this.  However, recent encouragement from friends has convinced me to return to this project.  The original plan was for a group of us to work together on multiple projects.  A verity of factors prevented that.

I initially lost interested in I've Never Played for two reasons. First was that I couldn't get my capture software to work with Duke Nukem 3D, which was to be what I tried next. Second was looking back at the poor quality of the Doom posts.  Yet, I've decided to continue when I was told that a friend of mine was sad that I stopped doing them.  I've been watching many other video blogs/critics over the years and I think I have a better grasp of proper editing technique.  At least in my head, we'll see how it works in practice.

Therefore, I shall be returning to Doom.  Hopefully I can get Duke to work on my current rig and I remember how to use my editing programs I just reinstalled.

Lastly, my roommate has also started recording a group of us playing Garry's Mod.
Starring:
BearAspirin: Roommate
Tech-Viper : Roommate's Twin Brother
The Simulated Scholar: ME!
Blondie-Chan: Roommate's Girlfriend

Now off to record.
